Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions when planning a wedding. After all, the photos are what remains after the big day. Here are our 7 best tips.
1. Book early – at least 6-12 months in advance
Good wedding photographers are booked up quickly - especially in the peak season from May to September. We recommend booking at least 6 to 12 months before the wedding. Popular dates like Saturdays in the summer are often booked years in advance.
2. Clarify the style beforehand
Do you want a documentary report, classically elegant portraits or a creative, artistic style? Take a close look at your photographer's portfolio and discuss your ideas. At picjoy we offer all styles – from reportage to creative.
3. Plan to get to know each other
Meet with your photographer in person before the wedding. The chemistry has to be right! With us, a pre-wedding shoot is included with the Plus package - so we get to know each other and you get photos for the invitation cards at the same time.
4. Make the schedule realistic
Allow enough time for the photos. For couple portraits, we recommend at least 30 minutes after the wedding ceremony. Discuss the course of the day with your photographer so that he or she knows which moments are particularly important.
5. Create a shot list
Which family members and friends should definitely be photographed? A short list of desired group photos helps the photographer not to forget anything. But: Don't overdo it - 5-10 group photos are usually enough.
6. An Second Shooter denken
For larger weddings, it is worth having a second photographer who can capture a different perspective. While one person photographs the wedding ceremony from the front, the other captures the guests' reactions.
7. Clarify the budget
Good wedding photography comes at a price - but it's worth it. Plan at least 10-15% of your wedding budget for the photographer. Compare not only prices, but also the scope: How many hours, how many edited images, is a pre-shoot included?
