The application photo is often the first impression a potential employer gets of you. That's why it's important that you present yourself there professionally and authentically. The right choice of clothing plays a crucial role.
The golden rule: industry-appropriate, but authentic
Dress the way you would appear on your first day at a new job - maybe a little smarter. In a bank or law firm this means a suit or costume. Things can be more relaxed in a creative agency. Important: Feel comfortable in your outfit, because you can see that in the photo!
The best colors for application photos
Muted, calm colors such as dark blue, gray, burgundy or white look the most professional. Avoid bright patterns, eye-catching logos and colors that are too bright - they distract from the face. Solid color tops almost always work best.
No-gos when choosing clothes
Avoid: T-shirts with large prints, short-sleeved shirts (they cut off your arm unflatteringly), necklines that are too low, and clothing that doesn't fit properly. Very shiny fabrics can also be problematic in photos.
Makeup: Less is more
Subtle make-up is best - it should emphasize you, not disguise you. Important: Use mattifying powder so that you don't shine in the photos. Avoid shiny creams and heavy eye make-up.
Hair and accessories
The hair should be well-groomed and combed away from the face. A little jewelry looks more professional - a subtle necklace or small earrings are perfect. Do you wear glasses? No problem – just make sure it is clean and not reflective.
Our tip: bring two outfits with you
In our studio we recommend bringing two different tops. So you can compare on site and we will be happy to advise you which one suits your chosen background better. With picjoy you get at least 20 images to choose from with the standard package - with different backgrounds and poses.
Costs for application photos: reimbursed by the job center
Did you know that the employment agency or job center usually covers the costs for application photos? Simply talk to your clerk beforehand and get an application for cost coverage. You bring this with you to your shoot and we will fill it out for you.
